Assets of Faith: A Quiet Day for Reflection on Spiritual Resources for the Work of ABCD
The work of Asset-Based Community Development calls upon us to explore the often unknown territory of our relationships with our neighbors. As Christians, we face both the real and the imagined challenges of the unknown by drawing upon a variety of spiritual assets. Join us from 10am - 3:30 pm as we reflect upon these "assets of faith" through reading, song, meditation and action.

Observation: Non-food Pantry Distribution at St. Thomas'/Santo Tomás, Plymouth
Our Non-Food Pantry (NFP) is open each Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 in the Parish Hall and basement. Volunteers from the church and community work at the project each week (even though parishioners are missing the mid-week Eucharist service at 6:00 on their week to work). We accept donations of supplies as well as funds. Working with the Northern Indiana Food Bank, we are able to obtain paper supplies and diapers at greatly reduced prices, when available. Our soaps and shampoos are purchased locally at a dollar store.
Each client is allowed to choose five items for their home each month. Although this is a tiny amount, our clients assure us we are really helping them provide for their family.
Repair Fair Planning Meeting at Holy Trinity, South Bend
We are working together to implement and lead a repair fair project as a way to engage Holy Trinity in Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD). By providing space to learn from each other a thing or two that we are good at, the repair fair will enable community members to have some of their household belongings repaired and to repair the belonging of others. Furthermore, the repair fair will serve as community therapy as everyone will be accepted and valued in her/his dignity, which is the core of true and sustainable relationship. All in all, our repair fair is life repair.
It is my strong desire to invite you to a meeting on December 16, 2017 at 3:00 pm to hear more about our repair fair project. I will update you on what we have achieved so far, and inform you of the next steps in the implementation of the project.
Observation: Service on Saturday at St. Michael and All Angels, South Bend
SOS: Service on Saturday is a free lunch program hosted by Saint Michael's on every third Saturday of the month from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. All are welcome and hundreds of guests, from all walks of life, come and are fed. It is food, it is fellowship. Every fall our monthly lunch program partners with Mahoney Dentistry across the street in order to provide meals and hospitality to hundreds of guests while they wait to participate in a free dental clinic day. Saint Michael's SOS ministry is blessed to be partnered with the Food Bank of Northern Indiana to provide nourishing meals and a modest pantry of food supplies to our guests. Join us every third Saturday for lunch!
