The Good Shepherd Distribution
In late 2017, members of the Church of the Good Shepherd in East Chicago voted to request the dissolution of their parish. In October of 2018, the Standing Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Northern Indiana approved a plan put forward by the Property and Loan Committee for the disposition of property belonging to the parish, and having likewise received the consent of the membership to that plan, Diocesan Convention witnessed to that dissolution in November of 2018.
Part of the plan for settling the property belonging to the Church of the Good Shepherd involves a distribution of liturgical garb and equipment, of books and of other small objects of value. Desiring both to honor the memories of those who have engaged with this faith community and to continue the use of such items in worship where possible, the Diocese has set up the following system for requesting items:
Review the Catalog of Items and submit online requests between January 6 and February 2, 2019—
Review of requests will take place between February 4 and February 15, 2019. Notification of recipients will go out by email. Priority will go to—
Persons/Families named in connection with an item,
Parishes who will use the item in worship and
Members and benefactors of the Church of the Good Shepherd.
Others requesting items will then be given consideration.
In-person distribution of items (greatly preferred) will take place on February 23, 2019.
Where possible, items will be distributed free of charge, although contributions to the Diocese for ongoing ministry in NW Indiana are always appropriate and appreciated. If a recipient is unable to personally retrieve the item, the Diocese will pass along any expenses for shipping and handling. Weights given for catalogued items should be understood as an estimation for shipping purposes. Actual costs will be billed to the recipient.
