Dear Colleagues in Mission and Ministry,

Grace and peace be with you in God our Creator, and Giver of Life!

As many of you know, a weather system moved through Indiana yesterday afternoon and evening with devastating effects to the people of Howard County and the City of Kokomo.  Thankfully, no one was killed and there are minor injuries.  However, there is extensive damage throughout the area from the tornadoes that touched down.

Last night, I called the Rev. Richard Lightsey, who serves as the Rector of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, to get an update from him on the status of damage and their immediate need.  This morning, I called Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD) to initiate our collaboration with ERD and the people most in need.  I have been in contact with Fr. Richard and through him, Kokomo Urban Outreach.  I will be coordinating the relief effort through Fr. Richard over the next few days.

Pasted below is the URL address for Kokomo Urban Outreach.  Their building was damaged so they have had to find another site from which to serve the community.  They are in need of hygiene items, diapers, formula, feminine products, toothpaste and toothbrushes etc.  You can find out how to help and also make a financial contribution to their Faith and Action Fund via the website http://www.kokomourbanoutreach.org/ .

A special request from Fr. Richard ...

We (St. Andrew's) are going to coordinate an effort to assemble meals to be brought to United Way for distribution.  There is also a need for towels and personal hygiene items to be brought to the YMCA, where folks are invited to shower.  Today and tomorrow power lines are being removed and lifted.  Beginning Saturday the city needs help cutting up trees and hauling them to the street.  If you own a chainsaw ... you are needed in Kokomo!

Let's continue to uphold all those in Howard County and the city of Kokomo in our prayers as they face the challenges of the days, weeks and months to come.  As the needs are made known, I will pass them along to you.

Thank you for your generosity.

Every blessing,

+Doug
